SKP is the short abbreviation for SKPSSO. To work this stitch, slip the first stitch as if to knit, knit one, and then pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. This is a decrease and is generally paired with knit two together (K2tog).

Unfortunately SKP is not a mirror of the K2tog. The left leg of the new stitch is slightly elevated above the fabric. This elevation does show. The miror image would be SSK (slip as if to knit, slip as if to knit, knit the two slipped stitches together) covered in the next lesson.

However it does have some decorative uses as in the Mock Cable.

I remember reading an article several decades ago that taked about the SSK being a relatively new decrease having only been seen in print since the early 90's. I have been unable to locate that article so do take this with a grain of salt It may be true because no really old pattern uses SSK that i have ever seen.
