Pattern Selection Tips

Choosing a pattern that is right for you or the intended recipient can be difficult.
Choosing a pattern that is right for you or the intended recipient can be difficult. Knowing what to look for can be a great help.

If it is a sweater pattern, find a similar weight garment. Measure under the arms to determine what the underarm width should be. An existing sweater or sweatshirt makes a great pick. Once you know that width, then find a pattern that will yield that size.

One customer found a pattern that fit her perfectly. She used that same pattern thereafter for every sweater she knit for herself. She would make design changes: multicolor yarns, self striping yarns, adding fair isle sections, seed stitch borders, lengthen or shorten the length, add side vents are only a few options she employed. No one knew it was the same pattern until one day she confessed.
