8 slices of bacon
4 large onions
¾ cup brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon dry mustard
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup vinegar
2 cans (15 oz.) dried large buttered lima beans - drained
1 can #1 size green lima beans – drained
1 can #1 size red kidney beans – drained
1 can (1# 11 oz) baked pork and beans – undrained
Prepare bacon – fry crisp – drain – crumble. Return to skillet. In bacon drippings, place onions which have been cut into rings. Add sugar, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and vinegar to skillet. Stir to blend. Cover and cook 20 minutes. In 3 quart casserole, combine beans: add sweet and sour mixture. Bake at 350F for one hour. I find the flavor intensifies if I cook 3-4 hours. Serve hot.
